“My name is Mariam Al-Madhoun — I’m a mother of three daughters and currently eight months pregnant, living through unimaginable hardship since the war began on October 7.”

I’m originally from northern Gaza, where we had a simple but stable life — until the war turned our world upside down. Our home was destroyed, and we were forced to flee to the south, where we spent 15 long months displaced, living in overcrowded shelters, tents, and among strangers. Those months were filled with hunger, fear, and uncertainty.

Eventually, we returned to the north hoping for a fresh start. I found temporary shelter for my family in a small room provided by UNRWA, which barely fit my children and me. It wasn’t much, but it gave us a tiny sense of safety.

But even that was taken away.

After a new eviction order, we were forced to leave once again. Now, we are moving between the homes of displaced relatives, none of whom have stable shelter themselves. We live day to day, carrying our belongings, our fears, and our children from one place to another.

We are facing severe hunger.

There’s little food. No steady access to clean water. No privacy. No income.

My children have been stripped of all their rights — education, stability, even enough to eat.

And I’m about to give birth.

I don’t know where I will deliver my baby, or if I’ll even have a safe place to bring them home to. My heart breaks every time my girls ask,

“Mama, where are we sleeping tonight?”

Because I truly don’t have an answer.

That’s why I’m sharing our story.

We need your help.

Any contribution — no matter how small — could help us survive:
